Meet the author, Angelique Allen
Angelique Allen is a cephalopod researcher who is pursuring a PhD in neuroscience. She is interested in how octopuses and squid create an image of their world, or their visual processing, and is working on creating tools that will improve the field.
Throughout her PhD, she found a passion for science communication, and is now a self-trained storyteller who specializes in translating research for the general public. Through the growth and creation of Dreams of a Scientist, she has gotten to work with amazing scientists and is always on the lookout for more ways to get science into people’s everyday lives.
Meet the illustrator, Meg Mindlin
Meg Mindlin is an emerging molecular teuthologist and scientific illustrator captivated by the world of cephalopods. Her unique journey blends rigorous molecular biology with creative science communication.
Meg’s research centers on A-to-I RNA editing in octopuses, with her master’s thesis exploring how ocean acidification influences this process in Octopus rubescens.
Passionate about making science more approachable, Meg has shared her work on platforms like Science Friday’s Cephalopod Week, Seattle Aquarium’s Lightning Talks, BBC, ABC Weekends Australia, and numerous podcasts. She has contributed to Octo Nation and been quoted in The New York Times.
